How we work
Three-phase project delivery
We supported Aston Hall Farm through the entire journey as part of a consultative, collaborative partnership, offering a complete, battery-led solar rooftop solution for generating, storing and managaing their power.
Phase 1:
Data Capture and DNO
Phase 2:
Strategic System Design
Phase 3:
Implementation and Delivery

Phase 1
This phase focused on essential groundwork to bring the site up to standard. The inherited system at Aston Hall Farm required substantial remedial works due to previous substandard installation, with safety as the immediate priority.

Phase 2

System Facts
777 PV Solar Panels
- Includes 97 Side-panels to utilise south-facing barn walls to maximise solar generation.
- Panels are angled for optimal sunlight exposure.
6 x 64kWh HV SunSynk battery stacks
5 x 50kWh SunSynk Hybrid Bidirectional Inverters
- 2x replacing outdated SMA inverters: cowshed – existing grid-tied system.
- 3x dedicated to the new barn installation (side and roof panels).
- Batteries cluster-connected in pairs for efficiency.
Energy Management System (EMS)
- Developed in-house for precision monitoring and control.
- Uses advanced communication protocols for real-time system optimisation.
What Alphagen Energy did
Aston Hall Farm in Derbyshire underwent a full solar and battery system upgrade, including the innovative use of side-mounted panels to maximise generation. The system features 777 PV panels, 384kWh of battery storage, and 5 hybrid bidirectional inverters, all managed by AlphaGen’s advanced energy management system – delivering both on-site energy use and high export returns.
Phase 1
- NFU (insurer): Addressed fire safety concerns and system compliance.
- DNO (grid): Coordinated necessary permissions for connection and capacity.
- DEFRA (funding body): Ensured eligibility and approval for grant-backed installation.
Phase 2
- Full integration of 297 PV panels (200 roof-mounted, 97 side-mounted).
- Use of south-facing barn wall to increase generation capacity.
- 384kWh battery storage housed in a custom-built external container, designed to meet insurer compliance.
- 5 hybrid bidirectional inverters for new and upgraded system integration.
- AlphaGen’s proprietary Energy Management System (EMS) with Sunsynk Connect, enabling real-time monitoring and advanced system control.
Project Outcome
- 70% exported to the grid (client benefits from a high export tariff).
- 30% used on-site for farm operations
